It is not uncommon for people to wonder about how to stop snoring at night. While snoring is a fairly embarrassing problem, it can be effectively done away with by just an understanding of what causes the snoring and then taking steps towards alleviating these causes.
Snoring is basically caused by an obstruction of the airway in the mouth, nose and throat due to which air is not able to flow freely thus bringing about a noise during its passage. Now, there are some habits that can further accentuate snoring. Getting rid of these will help you in solving the puzzle of how to stop snoring at night. For example, it is a well known fact that overweight men and women snore more than others. This is due to the excess fatty tissues that cause disproportionate blocking of the airways. Thus, exercising and losing weight is a definite way of pulling the plug on – or at least reducing – the snoring problem. Quitting the habit of smoking is another means of eliminating the snoring syndrome.
However, probably the simplest thing you could do in your quest towards how to stop snoring at night could be to just re-adjust your sleeping posture. Try sleeping on your side instead of on your back. Make a habit out of it and you will see it helps. There is also the problem of pillows. Using a pillow causes a bend in your neck which will further block the airway. Instead try using an elevated cot that will lift the whole upper portion up by a few inches. Also, you could consider one of the many specially designed pillows available in the market especially for snorers.
You will find these simple remedies to be extremely effective if you take the effort to put them into practice. Soon the puzzle of how to stop snoring at night will no more be a puzzle!

QUESTION:
Should I go to the doctor to see about snoring/sleep apnea?
I’m fifteen years old and my friends tell me I sleep really weird.. I stop snoring for like 3 minutes then I start doing this whistling thing and this goes on all night long. I have super bad sinuses so could it be sleep apnea? What can doctors do if it is sleep apnea?
Oh, and after three minutes, I gasp for air they say. My family even notices.-
ANSWER:
Go to your doctor and see about a referral to a sleep clinic. They hook you up to a whole bunch of wires that monitor you as you sleep. Afterwards, they may suggest a c-pap machine which consists of a mask that you wear to bed and it forces oxygen into your lungs while you sleep. Also, if you quit breathing at night while you are sleeping, not good – that is what the c-pap machine is for.
Ask your parents to schedule you an appt and go and talk to the doctor!!
Good luck!

QUESTION:
How can I get my husband to stop snoring?
Okay, so here is the deal. Me and my husband have been married a little over 3 years. His snoring wasn’t a problem when we first got married because I was a deep sleeper. After we had our son I became a light sleeper. (I guess its a mom thing) I tried ear plugs, listening to music through my ipod all night, he tried breathe right strips, throat sprays, laying on his side, laying on his stomach. With the earplugs and music I could still hear his snoring so loudly that I couldn’t sleep. Also, the music made it hard for me to go to sleep, eventhough it was relaxing music. Laying on his side helps only a little. Laying on his stomach helps, but he says it hurts for him to lay on his stomach and ends up rolling back onto his side 10 minutes in. The throat sprays and breath right strips did absolutely nothing. Since neither one of us was getting sleep, me because of his snoring and him because I would wake him up and tell him to roll back onto his stomach, we took seperate bedrooms. We’ve had this sleeping arrangement for a little over 6 months now. However, we feel like it is damaging our marriage and want to start sleeping in the same bed again. Does anyone have some suggestions to help him stop snoring or help me sleep with his snoring or a combo of the two? Also, I know most of you are going to ask if he is overweight and yes he is, but won’t do much to change it. I’ve already tried that to no avail. He can’t get tested at the doctors because if they discover that he has sleep apnia then he would loose his CDL’s and loose our only source of income because he has no other skills. (his words not mine) Please no comments about the weight or sleep apnia, I just need a solution right now.
Thanks so much to anyone that answers!!

QUESTION:
How to stop my roommate from snoring!?
My roommate snores really loud, and I’m sick of it! But I don’t want to suggest nose straps. Are there any natural ways to stop her from snoring while she’s sleeping? Like some old wives tales are home remedies xP I’ve heard of turning the persons head while she’s snoring. It’s works, but only for a few minutes. Anything else? :3 I want to do it while she’s sleeping, instead of telling her to do something. I’ve tried telling her to sleep on her side, but she turns in her sleep … Help!++ I don’t want those silly answers that say “Punch her” or “Murder her”.
She knows that she snores like a bear xD She just can’t help it
And I just want a few old wives tales that actually work x3-
ANSWER:
I would suggest you to record her snoring sound when she is in sleep. Then next day make her listen that sound & ask her what she feels about it. Ask her what she will do when somebody is making such sounds when you are sleeping? if she is against that snoring sound, just tell her that it is her snoring sound & you get disturbed when you are sleeping. If she does not believe then take a video cum audio recording of her snoring habit and show it to her. Say her that if she can not do anything about it then better to visit any ENT specialist to get cured of her problem.
Note: Or better tell her to vacate your room & get any other new room mate(with no snoring problem).
Good luck.
